Q: Please give us a short summary of your website?
A: We are a full-service web design company. Gryphon Solutions can take care of everyone's web design needs whether they need a simple website or a complex web application using the latest technologies. We can take care of hosting, domain registration, and web updates. That's less to worry about if you're one of our web design clients.
Q: What inspired you to launch your own website?
A: Well, it would be very difficult to run a web design business without having a website. Necessity was the greatest inspiration. People want to see a web design portfolio, and the easiest way to do that is to have it online. However, we also wanted to create something beautiful for our prospective web design clients to see that clearly expresses part of our artistic vision for our own company.
Q: When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
A: My first website to launch was actually a hobby website of my own for my music and poetry. It launched in 2004. It's always strange to go back and look at it now, since I've learned so much more about building websites.
Q: How did you decide on a name for your website?
A: Well we decided on the Gryphon for our name and logo for several reasons. Being a combination of eagle and lion, we feel the gryphon embodies freedom, strength, and determination. Due to it's fictional nature, it also has captured people's imagination and dreams for thousands of years. Our goal is to make people's dreams a reality, so we thought it was very fitting.
Q: What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
A: The first thing that sets us apart from other web designers is our commitment to the vision of our clients. We believe that if our clients are successful, we will be successful too. When we create websites, that is always at the forefront of our minds. Our diverse skills balance the technical and creative allowing us to take web design projects from beginning to end without having to outsource.
Q: What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
A: Our main goal is to have as many beautiful websites out there as possible. Naturally, we want to be lucrative and to eventually be able to share that profit with more people as we grow. We have no intention of selling our company any time in the near future. We're just getting started!
Q: How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
A: Many times we end up sacrificing time and money for the well-being of our clients' projects. This is really a no-brainer of a decision. If the project requires more time than we charged for, that's just the way it is. If you measure success by the happiness and satisfaction of our clients, then we are very successful.
Q: If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
A: I have spent an incredible amount of time building our website, and I'm always adding to it. There are lots of things I still want to add, like testimonials and a log-in account for current customers.
Q: If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
A: Yes, most definately. I already have good people waiting to be hired who are very interested in building Gryphon Solutions, Inc. to be the best it can be.
Q: What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
A: I think the biggest surprise, being my first large-scale business endeavor, is the cost of advertising. It's always difficult to predict how effective it will be or if it will bring in any new clients. Will it be a waste of valuable money or will it be a lucrative jackpot. Advertising can be a lot like a slot machine, and you can never know for sure if it will pay off.
Q: What has been your biggest challenge?
A: I would have to say the biggest challenge has been learning how to take care of all the administrative functions of owning and running a business. My partner and I started this so we could be web designers, programmers, and artists. It is something we love to do. Accounting and board meetings probably aren't our favorite thing to do, but it's a package deal.
Q: What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
A: We have had some success promoting on sites like Craigslist. However, our best salespeople always end up being our clients. Most of our web design business comes in from referrals, which is why we take the satisfaction of our clients so seriously.
Q: How has running your website differed from your expectations?
A: Like many people, I believed that once the website was up and running, it would be done and customers would start flocking to us. The reality is that a website is never done. It requires continuous development and growth if you want to keep up in the competetive online sea of businesses.
Q: How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
A: Our website, like our company, was established in November of 2006. As far as what we'll do if we don't make it big time, we'll just try a different approach. I don't really look at the IF, just the WHEN and HOW we make it. We're doing what we love, and if we have to supplement it with other things during the more difficult times, than that's what we'll do.
Q: What are your plans for the future of your website?
A: I'd have to say developing more ways for our clients to interact with us online. In addition, we would like to eventually to develop our own custom web applications we can offer to our web design clients as valuable solutions to their needs.
